I have a bit of a thing about loungewear. I love the idea of it – curled up on the sofa with the Sunday papers, sporting luxurious merino leggings and an ultra cosy sweater. Wristwarmers and a cashmere scarf are probably involved, and word hygge is definitely floating around (if you have missed the hygge trend this year, you need to adopt it, pronto. Get over to Pinterest and lose hours of your life browsing hygge inspiration).
The reality, however, is fractionally less glamorous. One of my children will wake me on a Sunday morning while it is still dark, I will throw on the nearest pair of leggings and a sweater and if the Sunday papers do actually get purchased, you can guarantee they won’t be so much as unfolded until about Wednesday when I have a moment’s peace and read the fashion supplement, having caught up on all the actual news on the BBC website.
However, this season I have taken steps to ensure that the leggings and knitwear I reach for are Kettlewell ones (by dint of chucking out all the ageing, and occasionally holey, alternatives), because I am so in love with Kettlewell’s knitwear this season. I have always been a fan of the leggings, so that’s nothing new, but the increased range of knitwear has really won me over.
Of course, it’s not essential to wear your knitwear for lounging. Possibly you have an actual social life and go places on the weekend, so rather than just showing you four legging-and-cosy-cardigan combinations, I’ve also got some that you might want wear to go somewhere rather more glamorous than your sitting room.
